Two types of hospitalization

Admissions under the national health system

Admissions under the National Health System are performed at the Neurosurgery Unit (2nd floor, Iceberg sector), San Raffaele Hospital, Via Olgettina, 60 - 20132 Milan (MI).

The indication for hospitalization is determined during the outpatient neurosurgical evaluation.

The patient is contacted one week before the expected admission by the Department's Admissions Office.

The patient is then invited to report that same morning to the hospital's central admissions office with the admission request from their doctor, personal documents, and all medical records relating to the hospitalization and any previous health problems.

After administrative admission, the patient goes to the Neurosurgery Department (2nd floor, Iceberg sector). Medical and nursing admissions are performed here.

Discharges usually take place by 12 noon on the scheduled day, following delivery of a discharge letter with a summary of the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed, the therapies to be continued at home, and any subsequent check-ups.

Private admissions

Private admissions take place in the Private Patients Department, located on the 6th floor, Iceberg sector, San Raffaele Hospital, Via Olgettina, 60 - 20132 - Milan (MI).

Admissions can be made either fully private or through a health insurance plan.

If the insurance company does not have a contract with the institution or the medical staff, the patient, in agreement with the insurance company, may be admitted under indirect insurance.

The indication for admission is determined during an outpatient neurosurgical evaluation. In this case, the patient must explicitly request private admission, and a quote is then prepared.

Upon acceptance of the quote by the patient or the insurance company, the admission is scheduled.

On the day of admission, the patient must go to the payers' admissions area (ground floor, section D). They must bring with them the documents and medical records related to their admission.

After administrative admission, the patient is subsequently admitted to the Private Patients Department.
